Rumour: Star Fox Grand Prix is in development at Retro Studios

According to a verified Reddit rumour (via Nintendo Insider), Retro Studios is working on a game called Star Fox: Grand Prix, which is said to be a racing game in the vein of Diddy Kong Racing, and F-Zero.

A new rumor suggests that a new Star Fox game is in the works, but not in the way fans of the franchise would expect. If new reports are to be believed, it's a Star Fox spin-off - Star Fox Grand Prix.

This rumor originates, from a Reddit user DasVergeben, who writes;"What Retro Studios is working on is a spinoff based on an existing Nintendo IP that they haven't worked with before...."

An alleged image of the game's logo also recently appeared on 4Chan.

Retro Studios is best known for the superb Metroid Prime Trilogy for GameCube and Wii.

Information from Eurogamer's sources has lined up with what was posted online, but the outlet did not confirm Star Fox Grand Prix as an official title.

Nintendo really hasn't quite figured out how to bring Star Fox into the modern era, with just about every attempt after Star Fox 64 being underwhelming.

The other is that Retro Studios hasn't released a new game since 2014's Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and since the recent Switch port wouldn't have taken them long that means they've had over four years now to cook up a new game.

Nintendo's E3 2018 presentation has been the subject of nearly daily rumors and speculation.

Though the tipster doesn't explicitly say it will be announced at E3, this is very likely. Personally, it's the name check to F-Zero that's got me more put off, as I'd rather we see Captain Falcon himself make a return in a new game.
